BIOGRAPHY - RACHAEL FRANCOISE MACKENZIE

Rachael Francoise Mackenzie was born in 1980, the youngest of twins, her sister Ruth arrived several minutes earlier in West Yorkshire, England.  She and her sister were the first born of three children of Francois Napoleon Jones and his second wife Catherine. She changed her name to Mackenzie when she married in 2006.

As a child and even today the twins have been inseparable but quite different in character and how they look.

She was part of a large family with three brothers, Simon & Adam were respectively seven years and two years older and Mark was two years younger so they formed a small gang of children to play together and torment the many nannies that tried to look after them.

She was educated at a local private Junior school from the age of three until at the age of seven after which she was sent to boarding school in Leicester in the Midlands of England.

Rachael excelled at sports and played County Hockey, was part of the winning cross country team in the County Championships, was the best girl athlete at the annual sports day and received the annual prize for outstanding sports achievement.

Academically she was a good student and passed her common entrance examination to a Leciester College at the age of 13 and also received the school prize for French, English and Biology.

Rachael continued to attend college to the age of 16, passing 9 GCSE’s and was part of the team which won the National under 16 Netball Champoinship.

At sixteen for the first time she attended a state run all girls school to take her A levels.  Rachael obtained five A Levels and gained entrance to University to study Physiotherapy.  She was the school games captain and a West Workshire school's cross country champion.

Rachael graduated from University in 2001 with a first class honors degree in Physiotherapy.

Her first post was as a Physio Therapist at a West Yorkshire Royal Infirmary in 2001.  She was promoted to Senior Physiotherapist in 2003.  She continues to work in the National Health Service on a part time basis.  In 2006 she opened her own physiotherapy practice specializing in neurology and you can read more about her practice by clicking on her website www.neuroactive.org.uk

Rachael maintained a keen interest in sport and took up Thai Kick Boxing in 2000 as a means of remaining fit whilst at University.  Her early promise in the sport led to being encouraged to fight professionally which she commenced in 2002. 

Rachael won the flyweight British Championship in 2005 and Bantam weight in 2006.  She has taken two British Titles both by knock-out (one from Chanel and one from Hilary Mack) and a European Title in a points victory over 5 times world champion Illonka Ellmont.  She is was the World Number 1 at 50kg and 52kg as ranked by WIKBA.

In December 2005 she travelled to Thailand with Master A to become the first European Woman to fight Bare Knuckle in Thailand, She won by KO.

Rachael wanted to give something back to sport and is mentoring youngsters in the most deprived areas in the United Kingdom to improve their lives through sport working with the Youth Sport Trust and the Sky Living for Sport encouraging young athletes.

Rachael married Charles Mackenzie in 2006 and has twins Ferdinand Napoleon Holland Mackenzie and Winifred Francois Annis Mackenzie born in 2009.

In her limited spare time Rachael plays the piano and violin.  She is studying for her Masters Degree at University.
